Lazy Days of Summer
The other day I picked up a book from one of my friends. She told me that it was a beautiful story about kids in the Midwest running around and having fun during their lazy days of summer. She said although it didn’t seem that good, once you started reading it you couldn’t put it down. I opened it up and gave it a chance and when the kids started talking about throwing pistachio butter at one another, I thought that I had made a huge mistake.
But my friend was right. The more pages I read the more engrossed I became. The story had to do a lot with growing up and learning about who you are, all while doing everything you can to make the most of your youth. This is something that I neglected to do while growing up, so that’s probably where this particular piece of literature was able to hook me in. It seemed that these kids were always eating stuff that was really bad for them though, like in the second chapter when they were talking about eating big boxes of bulk rock candy sticks. I’d never even heard of these things and had to look them up online, which was a really weird thing to have to do.
